First Transit is partnering with the Minnesota Department of Transportation, EasyMile and 3M to demonstrate the capabilities of shared autonomous vehicles in winter weather conditions in Minneapolis.
The project will allow members of the public to ride the shared autonomous vehicle (SAV) at the city’s Nicollet Mall.
“First Transit is proud to be leading the way in SAV technology and innovation,” said Justin Pate, senior vice president of First Transit. “As SAV technology is changing at a quick pace, we are excited to be at the forefront.”
In addition to its SAV operations in North America, First Transit previously announced a partnership with GoMentum Station, a California test facility, to carry out research into shared autonomous vehicles.
The company will support the Minneapolis project by providing onsite personnel, operations and maintenance support for the autonomous vehicle.
