Hyundai accelerates autonomous efforts with former GM hire

Hyundai Motor Group has reportedly hired a former autonomous driving researcher from General Motors (GM) to oversee its fully autonomous vehicle development centre.

According to Reuters, Hyundai will accelerate its autonomous driving efforts with the appointment of Lee Jin-woo, who was previously in charge of autonomous driving technology development at GM.

Reuters quoted Hyundai as saying in a statement: “The new centre will not only enhance existing Advanced Drive Assistance System technologies but also conduct research into artificial intelligence related self-driving car technologies with the aim of commercializing those technologies.”
